Day 336
Not much going on here. My stomach pain that I thought went away seems to be coming back. That's a bummer cause I may have to go to the doctor. Maybe that will force me to get a new doctor since I am mad at my old one.
My parenting classes start this Thursday and I will be glad when they are done. I have been working on a cool powerpoint with student response questions within the presentation. Once participants use a remote to respond, then a graph can show the correct answers or how the answers came out in a graph. So there are some opinion questions that will be interesting to view the results.
We went to Kevin's Meet the Teacher Night and Wow what amazing teachers. This is what I wrote in an email to Thesman yesterday. He had emailed me about getting some students to help with my parenting class.
Wow, Rick and I were so impressed with "Meet the Teacher Night". We feel that Kevin will have every opportunity to succeed and be inspired by the teachers he sees on a daily basis. I just hope that Kevin's own choices don't get in the way of that- and we appreciate the help a 504 might provide.
All of his teachers were vibrant, enthusiastic presenters. Mr. Fabiano is a very dynamic speaker and seasoned teacher who easily grasped our attention. That should help Kevin since he lacks confidence in that subject. We especially liked Mr. Mohn's homework and test policy and felt that it is more than fair if the student is willing to work and wants to do well. I would love to pick his brain about his Powerpoint intertwined with CPS- wow! We also were excited by Mr. C. Lange's commitment to teaching his students study skills on top of the curriculum (remember how many times I have asked about a study skills class?). No one could sleep during Mr. Dewey's class with his booming voice and interesting subject matter. Mrs. Shortlidge is going to do her best to get Kevin turned on to reading and increase his test scores. Of course, Rec Sports, is Kevin's favorite class so Coach Fritz must be doing a great job. Mrs. Baker seemed very kind, confident, sure of her subject, and gave many resources to help those struggling. We didn't get to meet Mr. Smithyman, Kevin's advisory teacher, but I know he has gone out of his way to follow up with Kevin on the assignment notebook and other issues.
I don't know if Rick thought it was dumb that I sent that, but hardly anyone ever sends positive comments. People always notice what doesn't go right.
I am feeling better about my blog because I actually tried to search for my blog and couldn't find it using lots of different key words like stief blog, mama stief, and even A year without erica! But I am a little scared to get details about some things.
Today we were in line at the Post Office and was talking to an old coworker of dad's. Nicest man who has 2 older successful daughters and then this daughter from hell that is in Kevin's class at Kevin's school. He said he and his wife have cried over some of her bad choices. At meet the teacher night Thesman alluded to the fact that this is rough class. He made the point that all these kids are friends and the kids making bad choices are not separated from the ones making good ones. I honestly am having trouble coming up with some role model students from the that class to assist me in mine! Then at the KSSHAA safety meeting I went to the director said, "a couple years ago we were winning the war on drugs- we are now losing it and losing it bad". He mentioned the availability of marijuana being a big factor. For some reason hearing this guy talk about his struggles in the Post Office, knowing he is one of the nicest guys you could meet, and he and his wife wonder what they have done wrong. We could start a support group!
Well I need to go. The Pierpoint's are having all the office staff over for a Ohio State football game party. It should be fun and we need some relaxation. It really has been difficult to adjust to all the changes at HMS. It makes us realize all that we took for granted. Tim was just an amazing Christian man. I think he will go down in history as my very favorite boss. We all miss him and Roxana both. I am sure we will adjust over time or we may all go to work in Desoto!
Well I hope we get to talk to Erica tomorrow morning which is Sunday night for her. We have been having phone issues- but I am sure she is rarely in her apartment. She is young and traveling the world- why would she be in an apartment.
I sent in my stuff for my passport this morning. I am curious how we would get me from Seoul to Suncheon. I assume you might have to take a bus to meet me and we take a bus together? Or would I have to get a connection. Let me know how I would do that. I still like Pam's idea of us meeting you in Hawaii! That would be fun. But you don't have the time off.
Can't think of much more interesting stuff. I sent a letter to Martina yesterday so we will wait and see what she says. I got teary at the NW game last night when the cheerleaders danced to the Husky song- I remembered my beautiful girl out there!
See picture here I hope of the good ol days!
